Romantic Getaways on the Oregon Coast conjure a sense of adventure.  Rugged masculine terrain combine with exotic feminine bodies of water, the Oregon coast is a lovers’ paradise. 

A simple drive down highway 101 is awe inspiring, though one suggestion is paramount – if possible, drive from the north Oregon coast to the south.  The reason is because we drive on the right side of the road, and most of the great scenic turn outs are on the right side.  If driving from the north, to the south Oregon coast does not fit your plans, you’ll still have a great trip – no worries! 

In the last segment of our travels, we explored Astoria.  Making our way further down the north Oregon coast our next stop for romantic getaways is a gem of a discovery in the town of Wheeler, on the Bay of the Nehalem River.  Minutes from ocean beaches, with hundreds of miles of hiking trails, local antique shops, quaint five star dining, and hidden pearl of lodging at Wheeler on the Bay Lodge. 

The most attractive amenities for a romantic getaway on the Oregon coast are in-room hot tubs, fireplaces, and decks that take you right out over the water for a full view of the sky and mountains.  If you enjoy Oregon coast kayaking, you’ll appreciate free use of their kayaks while lodging.

Even if you live under a rock on the East coast, you probably know that Oregon is one of the most amazing and diverse places for romantic getaways.  Before getting too far into this, it might be helpful if Sarah and I, provide [our] view of what it means to for a great Oregon romantic getaway. 

Sarah is an avid hiker, and I struggle to keep up with her on the trails at times.  So, one of our first priorities in planning a romantic getaway is to be certain there are plenty of hiking trails.  For some, this may not seem so romantic, but think about it… to share time with the one you love, perched on a mountain crest, no one else around for miles… soaking in the beauty of the view, a warm embrace, a tender kiss.  What could be more beautiful? 

Another big requirement is being near the water.  Must, have water!  A lake is okay, but there’s something about the movement of water that brings my spirit to life.  The ocean is wonderful, and a river even better, fantastic!  Just being near large bodies of waters gets my romantic rockets firing, and is overall soothing.

Sunsets are one that we both agree on – spectacular, brilliant colors, lingering into a starry night… 

You might have figured out, that Sarah and I prefer romantic getaways that are close to nature, yet comfortable with delicious dining options.

This last month, we discovered Wheeler on the Bay.  A quaint little motel with understated surprises.  When we arrived, we upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite, which was exciting in itself.  After a couple of hours unpacking and enjoying the private hot tub, we ventured out for a 2 hour hike (think it was Neahkanie mountain).  That night we enjoyed an Eola hills Pinot Noir on the deck outside our suite, soaking in the stars and flow of the river.  The next morning the owner, Pat, convinced us to try kayaking and this turned out to be one of the highlights of our romantic expedition.  Being just a mile or so from the ocean, there are marshes and tall grasses and wildlife to paddle around and explore…  and, being mindful of tipping, a moment to stop, reflect, hold hands, and enjoy a kiss while rocking on the water was heavenly. 

Our pick for the best Romantic Getaways in Oregon for June, goes to Wheeler on the Bay.

Oregon is perhaps on of the best places on planet earth for romantic getaways.  Start with breathtaking sunsets, millions of miles of hiking trails, up scale four star hotels, and rustic cabins in the woods.  Whether for a romantic couples getaway, or for a family outing, Oregon is a spectacular place to be. 

For your next Oregon romantic getaway, consider these basics (rinse and repeat as often J).  To the north, a sunset view from Crown Point, or from Mt. Hood is unsurpassed.  If night life is your forte, then Portland offers a plethora of romantic lodging options and some of the hottest night clubs on the Left Coast. 

The Willamette Valley offers a gentle climate with some of the best vineyards and wine tasting in the world.  Imagine wine tasting one day, then taking a romantic hot air balloon ride the following morning across the vineyard terrain!  

If Shakespeare is tugging at your romantic heart, then the annual Shakespeare festival in Ashland is a must see, with the finest actors, stage presentations, all in a cozy mountain town with great food and spirits. 

Saving the best for last (or, perhaps your FIRST CHOICE), an unsurpassed romantic getaway to the Oregon Coast.  There are thousands of places to go on the Oregon Coast for a romantic getaway, and perhaps a dozen or so fine establishments where you would enjoy an excellent romantic getaway.  Though, the next time you plan a romantic getaway, think of our favorite, special, Oregon Romantic Getaway – Wheeler on the Bay.
